London Marathon – Lee and Michelle

(Story used with permission)

This year I have been working with Lee and Michelle to help them in their preparation for the London Marathon. Lee has Neuromyelitis optica (NMO) a severe form of MS which attacks the spinal cord and the optic nerve. Lee has lost the use of his legs and his vision is deteriorating.

Not to be beaten by NMO, Lee embarked on a campaign to raise funds for the MS Trust and gained a place for himself in the London Marathon 2018. Lee’s wife Michelle ran as his guide because of his visual problems, and she set about her own training schedule to ensure she was prepared for the day.

Working with Lee was interesting as the treatment had to focus on his shoulders and arms, rather than his hips and legs. Not perturbed, they both put in a great deal of training to complete this Marathon and I am delighted to say, did so. It has been a privilege to work, and to continue to work with Lee as he looks to his next challenge on the track!

Adidas Thunder Run 2015

For the third consecutive year I have spent the last weekend in July under canvas at Catton Park in Derbyshire. The Thunder Run is a 24hr event (midday Saturday – midday Sunday) and is run in relay over a 10km cross country course. This year I supported 2 teams of 8 and a ‘pair’, providing Sports Massage and first aid in my ‘mobile sports studio’ (please don’t call it a tent!)

The rain that greeted us when we arrived on Friday to set up, left us on Saturday, but returned to bid us farewell on Sunday. This presented some challenging issues in the treatment room, however we left on Sunday talking about next year!

Sports Massage Level 3

This year I have been studying Sports Massage level 3 with Sports Therapy UK. This, combined with my Deep Tissue and Advanced Therapy qualification, give me a broad range of tools to work with clients who prefer a Sports Massage. I have now commenced study on Sports Therapy level 4 where I am looking to further extend my skill base and knowledge of the body and how it works. I will be looking for clients to work with as ‘case studies’ for my level 4 portfolio. Please use the contact page here if you would like to know more about helping with the case studies.

Hertford St Andrew Pamper Evening

This is the latest of many events that I attend as a holistic therapist, offering 30 minute treatments to members of the public. Many of the evenings are organised for charity, and I always donate gift vouchers as a raffle prize. Locations can be interesting and range from school classrooms (are the chairs really that small?!) to village halls and even someone’s conservatory!

To book me for your event please use the contact page here.

London Marathon

It is everybody’s favourite event and each year more and more people try to gain entry into the London Marathon. I was successful in gaining entry in 1987 and again in 1996 and found both events to be an exhilarating experience. In order to give something back to the event I have volunteered to be part of one of the many massage teams who provide therapy for competitors on the day. This year, working with Sports Therapy UK, we supported Macmillan Cancer and their fundraisers. To see some of the other events I have covered follow Events link here.
